What began in 2004 as an arbor addition to accommodate parking near the existing ranch style house at JJ Ranch, quickly turned
into a project encompassing a new main house addition, horse barn and new ranch entrance gate.
The owners desired a lodge-like space, large enough for family gatherings, with a Kitchen and Dining Area to support that function.
Our objective was to place the "Lodge" on the knoll with a commanding view of the ranch and link it back to the existing house with the support functions. The "Lodge" would need to open its arms to the landscape
and still be able to be battened down against the incessant wind.
The wraparound porch was developed to bring the scale down to the
existing house and site, as well as to provide relief from the sun to the south and west and a welcoming entry to the north.
