The owners wanted a new residence for their family of four in an existing neighborhood. They desired the character and feel of a 1920's era house with a floor plan more suited to their family's informal lifestyle.
Our challenge was to design delightful and livable spaces within an exterior which would blend with the scale and materials of the neighborhood. The details, inside and out, are clean and simple while reminiscent of an older home.
The site was situated between two single story bungalows in a densely populated older neighborhood. In response to this context we located the two-story mass at the center of the site while reducing the scale at each side with a single story library to the west and a carport to the east.
Significant features include a very open kitchen and living plan, a welcoming entry hall, library, and dining room complete the first floor. The second floor houses all the bedrooms, laundry, and a sitting room.
